WHAT IS PLUMB BOBBING?
Plumb bobbing is a method where a golfer grips the putter with their thumb and forefinger near where the grip meets the shaft, thus turning the putter into a plumb bob. The golfer then stands behind the ball and lines the club up with the hole and sees which way the green slopes. By doing this the golfer is able to verify what the break is on the balls path and which direction it will go. This shows the golfer something they may have missed by just standing behind the ball and it only takes about 10 seconds to do.
The reason for Plumb Perfect is to reteach and show why plumb bobbing should be part of every golfers putting routine. As putters began to take on many different types of designs and weights over the past few decades, the process of plumb bobbing has disappeared due to these changes in putters and a stigma of plumb bobbing has since taken its place. The stigma is that plumb bobbing does not actually work because it does not actually find the correct level of the greens. This is because most people are doing the relatively easy process of plumb bobbing wrong. They are just bobbing. People are missing one step that makes the whole process work, and that is to adjust the putter they have to the correct degree/position that makes it plumb. People think they just have to aim the point of the putter at the hole to read the green. With the changing weights, different putter head adjustments, and head sizes, a putter will not hang plumb if hung at 90 degrees. This was a non-issue when people putted used Bullseye putters and other putters that had the shaft meet the head with little to no offset. This made plumb bobbing easy to do as there were no adjustments needed to do the putters as they already naturally hung plumb.
Now enter Plumb Perfect. Plumb Perfect is a device that calibrates the golfers to hang plumb by taking away human error and letting the putter hang naturally through the use of gimbal rings. These gimbal rings turn the putter into a gyroscope and shows the user what plumb is and where they can then take what they have learned to the course and plumb bob on the greens to find the correct direction and severity of breaks.
Plumb Perfects job is to debunk the stigmas behind plumb bobbing in today’s golfing world and show golfers a step they need to add to their routine. So many devices and aids today focus on how to stroke the putter and where to strike the golf ball, which is important, but none really focus on how to read the greens. Knowing how to properly read a green is more important than the actual stroke because if a golfer does not know how to line it up, then their perfect stroke is negated.
